things mean a lot

2 notes &

bookgazing replied to your postWhat is your opinion on Faith in BTVS? YES to your last paragraph. The whole ‘Angel’s curse awakened by sexytimes’ ep is particularly troubling (if v in keeping with vampiric tropes for vampire media and heartbreaking).

It particularly bugged me that everyone kind of blamed Buffy for what happened by framing her decision to sleep with Angel as a mistake instead of a valid choice, and that this was never really questioned by the narrative. No one turned on her or anything, but everyone was like “Yeah, you shouldn’t have done that, it was rash of you, now you have to face the consequences, blah blah blah”. WTF, people? There was absolutely NO way she could have known what was going to happen, and her decision to have sex with her boyfriend was perfectly legitimate. Can this nonsense stop now, please?  Of course, none of this stopped me from being heartbroken for the two of them and kind of in love with season 2 for its emotional pull.

Hahaha, yes I have :D I only wrote one post about it so far, but it does include a mention of the fact that you were right all these years ;) I’m up to season 4 and totally hooked!

xicanti said: The sexuality stuff bugs me, too. I think the writers are hyperaware of how stories traditionally work. They often use this to great effect as they twist our expectations, but sometimes they take the expected route in truly disappointing ways.

Yes, exactly. Perfectly put.
